How to Make and Use Sourdough Starter

January 26, 2025 by admin

Ingredients for Sourdough Starter:

  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose or whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) water

Procedures for Sourdough Starter:

Day 1:

  • Combine 1 cup flour and 1/2 cup water in a jar or bowl. Mix well, cover loosely with a lid or cloth, and let sit at room temperature for 24 hours.

Day 2:

  • Discard half of the starter (about 1/2 cup). Add 1 cup flour and 1/2 cup water to the remaining starter. Stir well, cover, and let sit for another 24 hours.

Days 3–7:

  • Repeat the same feeding process every 24 hours. By day 7, your starter should be bubbly, active, and have a pleasant tangy smell, indicating it’s ready to use!
