Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Cream Sauce
- In a skillet or saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Once the butter is melted, add the flour and whisk continuously to form a smooth paste, known as a roux.
- Cook the roux for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, to remove the raw flour taste.
- Slowly pour in the milk while whisking continuously to prevent lumps from forming.
- Continue cooking the sauce until it thickens and reaches a creamy consistency, about 5-7 minutes.
Step 2: Add the Dried Beef
- While the sauce is cooking, rinse the dried beef slices under cold water to remove excess salt.
- Pat the beef slices dry with paper towels, then thinly slice or chop them into bite-sized pieces.
- Add the sliced dried beef to the creamy sauce, stirring gently to combine.
- Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste, adjusting the seasoning as needed.
Step 3: Serve Over Toast
- Toast slices of bread until golden brown and crispy.
- Place the toasted bread on serving plates or a platter.
- Spoon the creamy chipped beef mixture over the toast, ensuring each slice is generously coated.
- Garnish with freshly ground black pepper or chopped parsley, if desired.
