Hamburger Potato Casserole: A Comfort Food Classic

Preparing Ingredients:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  3. Dice the onion and mince the garlic.
  4. Slice the potatoes into thin rounds.
  5. Grate the cheddar cheese.

Assembling the Casserole:

  1. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of a greased casserole dish.
  2. Spread half of the browned ground beef over the potatoes.
  3. Sprinkle half of the diced onion and minced garlic over the beef.
  4. Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, beef, onion, and garlic.
  6. Pour the tomato sauce evenly over the top layer.
  7. Cover the dish with foil.

Baking:

  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 60 minutes.
  2. Remove the foil and sprinkle the grated cheddar cheese on top.
  3. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  • For a spicy kick, add diced jalapenos or a dash of hot sauce.
  • Experiment with different cheese varieties such as mozzarella or Monterey Jack.
  • Substitute sweet potatoes for a healthier twist.
