Homemade Natural Banana Candy: A Sweet Way to Use Overripe Bananas

January 23, 2025 by admin

Turn those spotted bananas into a delightful treat your kids will adore! This 4-ingredient banana candy recipe is not only delicious but also reduces food waste. The natural sweetness of ripe bananas makes these candies irresistible.

Ingredients:

  • 3 very ripe bananas (the spottier, the better!)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Equipment Needed:

  • Food processor or blender
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Spatula
  • Airtight container for storage

Instructions:

  1. Peel and slice the overripe bananas into chunks.
  2. Place banana chunks in a food processor or blender.
  3. Add honey, lemon juice, and cinnamon.
  4. Blend until completely smooth and creamy (about 2-3 minutes).
  5. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Pour the mixture onto the parchment paper, spreading it evenly into a thin layer (about 1/8 inch thick).
  7. Set your oven to its lowest temperature setting (usually 170°F/75°C).
  8. Place the baking sheet in the oven and leave the door slightly open.
  9. Dehydrate for 3-4 hours, or until the mixture is no longer sticky to touch.
  10. Remove from oven and let cool completely.
  11. Cut or break into bite-sized pieces.

Storage Tips:

  • Store in an airtight container
  • Keeps fresh for up to 2 weeks at room temperature
  • Can be refrigerated for up to 1 month

Recipe Notes:

  • The riper the bananas, the sweeter your candy will be
  • Add different spices like nutmeg or cardamom for variety
  • Try rolling the finished candy in shredded coconut
  • Make sure the layer is even for consistent drying

Nutritional Benefits:

  • Natural sugars from bananas
  • Potassium-rich
  • No artificial preservatives
  • Good source of fiber

Enjoy this healthy alternative to store-bought candy that both kids and adults will love!
